Make sure that you purchase the correct dimension of tires

all-season tires

When you purchase a new set of tires, you will need to make sure they are the correct dimension for your vehicle. Smaller cars require smaller tires, and large SUVs or light trucks have traditionally much bigger tires. Ensure that you check the dimension of your current tires or check the owner’s manual to determine the recommended dimension for your vehicle.

For an SUV, it might be tempting to get larger and more rugged tires, which is ok, as long as they are within the recommended dimension. Rugged tires will not diminish the need for proper winter tires if you plan to drive in winter conditions. Rugged all-season tires will be great for traction in warm climates, but they will turn hard, and the rubber can’t achieve the needed traction for winter conditions. The tread design will also differ from what is required for good traction during the winter season.

The only way you can manage with one set of tires for the whole year that includes winter conditions is to use a set of winter approved all-weather tires. These tires are designed for the full range of temperatures and weather conditions and have a combined tread design to cope with the weather you will face during the summer and the winter. The important thing is that you don’t drive during the winter with tires that aren’t approved for winter use and that you don’t drive with the wrong tire dimension.
