Finding the best SUV tires for different weather conditions

SUV all-season tires

The weather that you will be driving in will be very decisive for making your tire selection. Even though an SUVs often feel like they could drive through any conditions, the tires will be very important to ensure that you have sufficient grip when you encounter different conditions. When people see the rugged SUV tires, they believe that they can work wintertime even though they are using all-season tires.  However, all-season tires will never be safe to drive during winter conditions because they haven’t been developed for cold temperatures. So, when the temperature drops, you will be driving around with hard tires that cannot give you the necessary grip needed to keep you safe.

You will need to fit your SUV with either SUV all-season tires or SUV winter tires or use SUV all-weather tires for all year-round use. All options are good as long as you are not using the all-season tires in weather conditions that include winter conditions and temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The winter tires should be used for the full duration that you have winter conditions and when the temperatures are below 45 degrees.  If they are approved for winter conditions, the all-weather tires can be used for all the seasons and all temperatures. This is maybe the most convenient solution. It is also the safest tire option for areas with often shifting weather conditions, as you are always able to drive regardless of the weather. The SUV requires a larger dimension than ordinary passenger cars; they also tend to be wider to better spread the weight over a larger area at the contact point.

For areas with very harsh winters, it is better to choose a dedicated tire for just winter, and it has been optimized to be the best possible tire for these conditions. If you live and drive in areas with very icy conditions, you should probably choose SUV studded tires for the best possible winter grip and performance. If instead, your area has more snowy conditions, the SUV non-studded tires will be just as good, and you are a bit more flexible with non-studded tires as you can travel between states and provinces more freely as there are no restrictions on using them anywhere in North America.

The key is to stay safe when driving regardless of the weather conditions. There are a few ways to approach this, and you will need to decide the best solution for you and your SUV so that you can achieve the best performance and safety when you drive. By purchasing premium tires, you already made a good decision as they tend to give you better safety and performance, and they tend to also offer you a lower rolling resistance which translated to lower fuel costs and fewer tire replacements.

If you are driving an electric SUV or hybrid, you will need to make sure that you purchase tires that are recommended for use on these vehicles. They tend to be more wear-resistant if the tire manufacturer recommends them. You, therefore, need to check which tires are recommended by the manufacturer for this purpose.
